URGENT MESSAGE FROM GILMER COUNTY FIRE/RESCUE
As many of you are aware, there are ongoing wildfires in South Georgia. As of April 23, 2026, a mandatory, widespread outdoor burn ban is in effect for 91 Georgia counties due to drought conditions and increased wildfire risk.
Currently, Gilmer County is NOT included in the burn ban. However, Gilmer County Fire/Rescue strongly discourages all outdoor burning due to the current high fire danger. Our department follows all regulations set forth by the Georgia Forestry Commission.
Key Information & Current Hazards:
- High Fire Danger: Extremely dry conditions and low humidity are creating dangerous fire conditions across North and Central Georgia.
- Burn Restrictions: A restricted burn ban is currently in place for 91 counties following a rise in wildfires.
- Safety Advisory: Due to high winds and low humidity, all outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
- Stay Informed: Continue to monitor local updates and the Georgia Forestry Commission for changes to burn restrictions.
- Emergency: If you see a fire, call 911 immediately.
Currently, Gilmer County Fire/Rescue has not experienced a significant increase in brush fires, and we credit our community for helping prevent them, thank you. We ask all residents and visitors to remain vigilant and stay up to date with Gilmer County Fire/Rescue, Georgia Forestry, and Gilmer County EMA.
